Undefined Y: A Multi-Module Furniture System

By assembling these components with different angle connectors, users can create a variety of products, such as a light system, screen, trestle table, and even space. This design extends the lifespan of the product and reduces the waste of resources, reflecting Hsiang Han Hsu's commitment to sustainability.

The design of Undefined Y is realized through plastic injection molding, a process that takes advantage of the multi-modular design to maximize product functions while minimizing the consumption of mold production and production costs. The components can be intuitively assembled and disassembled, making it easy for users to adapt the products to different spaces. This design also enhances the convenience of repair and replacement, saving transport and storage space.

Undefined Y is not just about functionality; it's also about creating an atmosphere. The LED modules can be easily assembled with any component Y, creating diverse atmospheres around our space by different color temperatures and beam angles of the light. The project started in May 2015 in Shanghai and finished in April 2018 in Taiwan. It was exhibited in SaloneSatellite in April 2018. Throughout the project, Hsiang Han Hsu faced the challenge of creating a multi-function modular design rather than a single function product design. This required challenging the traditional business model and definition of product functionality. The result is an innovative concept of consumption and product life cycle that benefits consumers, manufacturers, and the environment.
